  1. Game Cracker
  2. ============
  3. Game Cracker is the largest known Game Cracking Archive in
  4. the world. If you are unfamiliar with Game Cracks, a brief
  5. explanation is in order....

  7. There are two main types of "Protection" applied to Games.
  8. The first is a "CD Check". This means once the game is
  9. installed on your Hard Drive, you need to have the CD inserted
  10. in your CD-ROM drive for the game to run. The obvious intention
  11. is to prevent someone from installing a game and then giving
  12. it to a friend to use, etc. From the prespective of the
  13. software developer this is a good idea; from the perspective
  14. of the honest end-user it is very limiting. What if you want
  15. to avoid the wear and tear on the CD? Playing a game over and
  16. over will cause scratches, etc. on the disc surface! What if
  17. you want the convenience of playing it on your laptop without
  18. remembering to lug the CD around?  The list could go on and on.
  19. Needless to say, this method of protection is an invconvenience.

  21. The second type of protection is a physical protection. This
  22. can come in a variety of versions. Whichever method is used,
  23. you will be unable to make a backup copy of your original.
  24. This is accomplished by altering critical information on the
  25. CD to fool most CD Copying software into being unable to copy
  26. the disc. For example, the game might report it has a 3 Gig
  27. file when, of course, this is a physical impossibility!
  28. By law, you are allowed to make one backup of any software
  29. that you own--- so long as you destroy the backup if you
  30. give away or sell the game. We all know the benefits of making
  31. backup copies. Unfortunately because of some dishonest people,
  32. some software companies have felt is is necessary to prevent
  33. even the average, honest end-user to make a backup.

  36. solve many of these problems for many different games. Please
  37. keep in mind, as per the End User License Agreement, the
  38. primary intent of this CD-ROM is to demonstrate reverse-
  39. engineering techniques used by hackers to circumvent software
  40. protection techniques. Before you use any of these files, please
  41. make sure you are not infringing on the copyright protection
  42. of others.
